The Government has committed to expanding IAPT to meet the needs of children and young people with a project starting in 2011-2012. The project will be based along the lines of the Adult Program, but is being designed to meet the specific needs of youth under 18 years of age, through working in partnership with young people and professionals. The goal of the project is to improve outcomes for children and young people through sustainable change in practices within services, thus upgrading the capacity of existing targeted and specialized CAMHS. Prior to this, the IAPT program focused only on adults.
